Do you know Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan? He is a well known musician who was born in the year 1948 and later died in 1997 aged 48 years. He was born in Pakistan at a town known as Faisalabad. He came from a family of musicians who ended up becoming stars globally but mostly in the Arab world. His main genre was primarily Qawwali, (which is traditionally associated with the Islam religion) but he later started to sing the Ghazal genre of music. He was greatly talented as he would sing very high pitched notes and hold the notes for a very long time. He also had a very wide vocal range, a very articulate rendition and gave outstanding memorable performances. He played instruments like harmonium and the vocalist while singing. All these attributes gave him the nick name ‘The King of Kings of Qawwali'. His recording started in England where he collaborated with several artists with very many different genres from his own. He also collaborated with artists from all religions, traditions, and race. This made him to shine his star throughout the world. He also performed all around the world in very many countries. He received a lot of awards for his outstanding work and left a legacy for others to follow.
Ghazal is a genre of music that is composed in a poetic manner. It has the traditional rhyme in words especially at the end of each sentence. It originated from Arabia but today it has found its way to poetry of many languages. Ghazals usually addresses things to do with pain involved in separation of loved ones and the sweet feeling of love despite the separation. Some Ghazals have the Islamic mysticism in them. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Ghazals are very popular all over the world. He composed and sung many Ghazals that have been used in very many movies as sound tracks in Bollywood and Hollywood. Some of his Ghazals are being redone even after his demise. He has sold very many singles and albums of his Ghazal genre. Some of the recorded Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Ghazals are, Bewafa Se Bhi Pyar Hota Hai, Barsoon Kay Intizar Ka, Aisa Banna Sanwarna Mubarik Tumhen, Aafreen Aafreen and Ham Ne Dekha Tha Ek Khawab.
